I had the pleasure of meeting Ashley and her 10 month old son, Owen. We hung out in a field of wildflowers and grasses and captured some photos while mom and baby played together. I think it is safe to say that all three of us had a fun time. :)
We had a lovely evening session down by the ol' T'Railway. It was a cool summer evening with a speck of Sun peeking through the clouds. We played on train and also hung out on the bridge, overlooking the river that spills into St. John's Harbour. We had to wrap up as daylight had begun to wane and Elliott's bedtime approached. Happy 1st birthday little Elliott! I hope you had a fun day. :)
This Sunday I was delighted to have the opportunity of photographing this very sweet family. With the recent "heat wave" to hit St. John's I was worried that it would be a hot 'n humid afternoon. However, the weather was kind to us and I couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day! Our session was full of smiles, laughs, silly faces and poses. :)
Here are some of the results of our fun photo session:

Good morning folks!
Summer has finally approached us here on the Rock with sunny, humid, windy weather. For those who do not live in Newfoundland, it is not often we turn on our air conditioners. Yesterday our home reached 25C and we finally caved in. Fortunately this morning we are feeling relief with light showers and a cool breeze through our home.
For those of you who have been in the market for a camera tripod, I'm sure we can all agree that it is not an easy venture to find an affordable, good quality piece of equipment. Like many products there are so many options to choose from. Which one is right for you?!
My natural starting point was YouTube where I immediately found an informative and highly entertaining clip called "Extreme Cheapo Tripod Test". Here they demonstrated the importance of spending a bit extra of your money on a good quality tripod so it will give you more stable shots, will last longer, and protect your camera. Yes, those light and flimsy tripods you purchase on sale can easily tip over in those Newfoundland winds and destroy both your tripod and expensive camera investment. I highly recommend watching the video if you are looking to buy a tripod.
After much research I found the Dolica Proline GX Series 65 inch Aluminum tripod on Amazon. It is a solid piece of equipment that runs in the middle of the pack. One feature I am particularly fond of is the counterweight hook. It is not shown in the photo above, but it attaches to the bottom of the centre column and provides additional weight for windy days or when I attach my telephoto lens and make the tripod top heavy. The hook can easily be removed so you can adjust the tripod low to the ground (perfect for macro lens users!). There is a leveler and a solid mount that the camera attaches on. I opted for a tripod with a knob instead of a big awkward handle as I felt it would give me more control over subtle adjustments.
Overall I am very satisfied with my decision to purchase the Dolica tripod. I was able to successfully use it in a low-light, controlled-light setting with a moving baby and found the images to be nice and crisp. I could quickly and easily remove the camera from the tripod to capture some photos from other angles when I felt necessary and didn't miss a moment while trying to fidget with the equipment. Nice and smooth transition from tripod to hands!
I will continue to experiment using this tripod in different settings. I am excited to have this additional piece of equipment which I am sure will enhance and diversify my photography.
Thanks for tuning in!
